Capt. Anonymous Strikes

From today's NYT:

NSA's intercepts exceed limits set by Congress
Several intelligence officials, as well as lawyers briefed about the matter, said the N.S.A. had been engaged in “overcollection” of domestic communications of Americans. They described the practice as significant and systemic, although one official said it was believed to have been unintentional. The legal and operational problems surrounding the N.S.A.’s surveillance activities have come under scrutiny from the Obama administration, Congressional intelligence committees and a secret national security court, said the intelligence officials, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity because N.S.A. activities are classified (emphasis mine).
Good thing classified information can be trusted in the hands of sources who obviously can't be trusted. Fortunately, the leaker's identity is safe. I was worried*.

*sarcasm alert.

TDP,
Now that the Socialist, Muslim-loving Communists are in charge, aren't you worried that the NSA's secret overcollection of domestic communications might be directed at you? Assuming you are an upstanding moral citizen, you may think you have nothing to worry about and this poses no threat to you. Of course, as DFH Marc Maron has pointed out, perhaps you have said or done things that could be used to embarrass you. Do you trust the government with that information?

The problem here is not the leak of the information that this has been happening. The problem is that "overcollection" of domestic communications of Americans is happening at all.

We Libs didn't like when this was happening under Bush. We still don't like it if it's happening under Obama.

Frank:

I have done many things in my life which would embarass me, if known publicly.

I am only trivially concerned NSA's domestic communications overcollection (we don't need the modifier "secret". It's NSA after all) will be directed at me.

I'm far more trustful of government than I am of politicians. To me there is a distinction.

I believe 99.999% of all intel is noise. Unfortunately, we don't know which piece is noise in advance.

I think in the endless struggle to balance liberty and security, some dolphins are going to get caught in the tuna net.

I think these leaks are theater. The info's been leaked because it's useful to some political actor in a way I can't possibly know and frankly couldn't care less about. Someone's probably trying to save her job and this is how she does it.

I think the politicization and hyperbole about intel (both its value and its cost) is nauseating.

I think someone entrusted with classified information should have the decency to, um, keep it classified.

In fairness to your last statement, I felt this way under GWB, I feel this way under BHO. I expect I'll feel this way under President Chelsea.

One other thing Frank:
Socialists, Muslim-loving or not (and they generally aren't) can't also be Communists. It was a good joke, though.

I knew you would get that.
