The author of that article is 100% correct. In the long run, high gas prices would be beneficial to America for all the reasons listed.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a politician in Washington that has the balls to support this type of intiative. It's too easy for the media or their political opponents to turn this into a "he voted for high gas prices". Joe average American won't understand the long-term benefits, only the short term cost.
